Pattern Clinic PRO — Analysis #001

We lock avatar/fabric/sim and vary only the wearing position to log waistband angle/curvature changes. Examples are simplified for simulation; reinterpret for brand/fabric/size policies in production.

Principle #001

A letter to Nuno, 16 years ago — #011: The waistline is not a parallel shift

Purpose

Quantitatively observe and record the structural impact of wearing position (low/mid/high) on waistband angle & curvature (shape) and CF/CB behavior.

A 3D female avatar in an A-pose against a neutral background, shown three-quarter front view, with three bands around the waist/hip—light (high), medium (mid), dark (low)—representing waistline reference curves to visualize how angle and curvature differ by wearing position.
Low/Mid/High waistline reference (same avatar, A-pose).

Analysis Protocol

Lock

  • Avatar: size, anatomical waist level, neutral pelvic tilt, A-pose

  • Simulation: gravity ON, collision/particle settings fixed

  • Fabric: same preset (interlining/fusing identical)

  • Pattern: variable is only the waistband curve by wearing position

Variable

  • Wearing position: Low / Mid / High (bottom position relative to the waistline reference)

Procedure

  1. For each waist position, flatten (2D) the corresponding waistband curve

  2. Dress in 3D at each position to match that waistband

  3. Record the observation points using the same criteria

    • Option: Capture Strain Map as a supporting indicator

Observation Points

  1. CB/CF tilt

    • Did the waistband at the back (CB) or front (CF) rise / stay level / drop?

    • Log: CB: up/level/down, CF: up/level/down

  2. Tilt near the side seam

    • Which way does the waistband lean near the side seam?

    • Log: SS-front: up/level/down, SS-back: up/level/down
